Meet the Filmmakers

Lainie Robertson
Lainie Robertson is a Nashville-based filmmaker and a graduate of Belmont University. Originally from Hendersonville, North Carolina, she draws inspiration from her Appalachian roots and incorporates that heritage into her work whenever possible. Look for the Helpers: A Helene Story marks Lainie’s debut as a documentary filmmaker.
Lauren McNamara
Lauren McNamara is a Nashville-based filmmaker and senior Motion Pictures major at Belmont University. Her professional experience spans film festivals, event production, and both narrative and documentary film sets, where she has supported creative teams through development, script management, and a variety of hands-on technical roles. She aims to continue crafting stories that foster empathy and highlight community resilience. Lauren is deeply grateful for the opportunity to help share the remarkable work and spirit of the individuals and communities of Western North Carolina.


Mackenzie Thompson
Mackenzie works in the camera department in Nashville as a 1st & 2nd AC and DP. She’s worked on a variety of projects from feature films to music videos to conferences. Some of her most notable work has been for brands such as Dolly, ICEE, Regal, and the Nashville Zoo.
Rocky Burger
Rocky is a cinematographer and post sound mixer/composer from Atlanta, GA, currently living in Nashville! He’s worked on a multitude of projects, from music videos to narrative and documentary filmmaking. Also being a musician, he has a knack for anything in the entertainment world and has a passion for telling stories.


Courtney Cato
Courtney is a junior at Belmont University majoring in Motion Pictures Production. She served as one of the editors on this documentary and is thrilled to see the project continue to grow and make an impact. Courtney has experience as an Assistant Director and Assistant Camera, but her primary passion is editing. After graduation, she plans to pursue work as a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) and will be spending the summer in Los Angeles to learn, network, and gain hands-on experience in post-production. She is grateful for the support shown to this documentary and to the survivors whose stories it honors.
Darin Brubaker
Darin Brubaker is from Orlando, Florida and found his passion in filmmaking through acting. He is a junior at Belmont University for his BFA in Motion Pictures. He has done multiple short films, music videos, award shows, and more. Recently he started preparing for his senior thesis film and has gotten an internship at Range Agency.
